Child Specialist: Protecting Children from Divorce

Children are impacted by separation or divorce, and often they are least able to interpret or articulate their feelings or needs. As a child specialist and former Adjunct Professor in Child Development, I guide separating parents in communicating and co-parenting more effectively in order to protect the children from the emotional impact of divorce or separation. Because of my background in Child Development, I am especially well equipped to help parents devise a sensible parenting plan that is tailored to the developmental and special needs of the children.

Although Child Specialists are licensed mental health professionals, they do not provide therapy during the divorce. Instead, the Child Specialist educates and consults with both parents about:

• protecting children from the effects of divorce on children.
• what factors are linked to positive and negative effects on children.
• the development of a parenting plan specifically tailored to the needs of each family and their children.
