Divorce Mediation > How to Get Started

To get started in mediation, please contact the Stein Family & Mediation Center via email or telephone for an appointment.
We will want to speak with one or both of you before the first session to get a sense of the specifics of your situation. Our Center offers a free consultation of up to 30 minutes before beginning the mediation to make sure that you are both comfortable working with us.
Occasionally, we will ask to see each of you individually first before meeting together. Eventually, you will want to bring in documentation for all financial accounts, income, tax returns, etc., but they are not necessary for the first session. At that time, we will let you know what to bring to future sessions.
Regardless of my role, my goals for clients are the same:
  • To reach sensible agreements efficiently, respectfully, and compassionately that work for all
  • To form an effective co-parenting alliance that protects the children
  • To learn to communicate more effectively so that everyone can be heard, feel understood, and have more positive interactions going forward
